Participant Biographies

Dr. Debra Bourdeau

English

Dr. Debra Bourdeau is an Associate Professor of English and Chair of the Department of Humanities and Communication on the Worldwide Campus. Her research focuses on the intersection of narrative and visual art in the work of 18th-century engravers such as William Blake and William Hogarth. She is also an experienced developer of innovative, asynchronous humanities courses. Most recently, she co-developed (with Dr. Wood) a series of courses blending Humanities and STEM content. She is also serving a two-year appointment as the University’s General Education Program Coordinator.

Dr. Beverly Wood

Mathematics

Dr. Beverly Wood is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Associate Department Chair for STEM Education on the Worldwide Campus. She has experience at a previous institution in developing a Quantitative Reasoning course for the general education of non-STEM majors. She is a respected course developer for asynchronous mathematics and statistics courses, co-developing a humanities course with embedded STEM content and perspectives.

Alex Rister

Humanities & Communication

Ms. Alex Rister is an Assistant Professor of the Practice and Associate Department Chair for Humanities & Communication as well as the Program Chair for the Communication degree on the Worldwide campus. She is an experienced developer of business communication and public speaking courses. She, along with Dr. Bourdeau, team-developed an online course in collaborative writing and presenting.

Jerry Krantz

Mathematics

Mr. Jerry Krantz is an Assistant Professor of the Practice, also in the Department of STEM Education. He is the course developer for Business Statistics, a simulation-based inference course, and for the calculus-based Probability and Statistics course taken by engineering majors and mathematics minors.
